Snorkeling
Captain Cook Monument & Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling Tour
Join Wahine Charters on our Custom built, 29 foot, US Coast Guard Certified vessel as we explore 14 miles of Kona’s beautiful and historical coastline on our way to the Captain Cook monument in stunning Kealakekua Bay for snorkeling. This 4 hour trip includes all snorkeling gear, snacks, fresh island fruit, drinks and gourmet sandwiches.
Our vessel the “Wicked Wahine” has plenty of shade, comfortable padded seating for up to 14 guest and a marine head (toilet). We think you will find this a better option than the exposed zodiac type rafts or the large party boats.
On the way to and from the Captain Cook Monument we usually encounter pods of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins, Humpback Whales (in season) and other interesting marine life. Bring your cameras for a great photo opportunity!
“We did the Captain Cook Snorkeling Excursion with captain Tim and Troy. They really showed me and my family a great time ”
The water in Kealakekua Bay is calm, clear, teaming with fish and beautiful coral. Many people will tell you that the Kealakekua Bay snorkeling is the best in Hawaii. When you get out of the water we will serve lunch and tropical fruits.
Captain Cook Express
With the world-renowned and historic destination of Kealakekua Bay just minutes from our point of departure, the Captain Cook Express is a personal, exciting, and efficient way to see the Bay named one of the world’s best snorkeling locations. Kealakekua Bay is a 315-acre marine sanctuary that boasts incredibly protected waters year round making it the best place in Hawaii for beginning snorkelers.
After a full hour of snorkeling in the crystal clear waters directly in front of the monument to Captain James Cook, you make your way back to Keauhou Bay along the South Kona coastline. Your Captain maneuvers our custom-made vessels into the sea caves at the base of Hualalai, hugging the coast and detailing the culturally significant and geologically fascinating features along the way. Watch for dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and even herds of thousands of goats! If you plan on snorkeling while in Hawaii and want to see what few do, this is the tour for you.
Spors Fishing
The waters just off of Kona Hawaii are renowned for producing giant blue marlin. Kona is one of the few sportfishing destinations in the world where it is possible to catch Blue Marlin year round. Unlike other sportfishing destinations, the best fishing takes place in the calm, protected waters just a short 10-15 ride from the harbor, making Kona a favorite fishing destination for novice anglers and sportfishing enthusiasts alike.
Kona Hawaii is known for it’s wide range of species including Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Short Billed Spearfish and the occasional Black Marlin and Pacific Sailfish. In addition to the numerous billfish species found in Kona, anglers can also enjoy catching Yellowfin Tuna, Ono or Wahoo and Mahi Mahi. Whether you are looking to catch a grander, complete a billfish grand slam or just relax and troll for something to cook on the grill, we’ll do everything we can to make your deep sea fishing charter as enjoyable and productive as possible.
YOU MAY KEEP YOUR CATCH!
We make every effort to Tag & Release all billfish species, but our clients are welcome to keep any other species they catch on their charter. We commonly catch Mahi Mahi (Dorado), Ono (Wahoo) Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) and upon request can adjust your charter to target these species when appropriate. We will even filet your fish for you.

The “Mecca” for sport fishing in Hawaii where you find the famous Big Island fishing charters is the world renown Kona sport fishing coast. The Kona Sport Fishing tours are ideal as the Kona Coast lies immediately adjacent to a huge ocean drop-off which descends thousands of feet to the ocean bottom. This provides easy access by Big Island fishing charter boats to some of the world’s largest game fish, many of which can be found mounted throughout the stores and restaurants of the small town of Kailua-Kona. Anglers from all over the world have found their way here to participate in one of the most exciting of all forms of fishing – Big Island of Hawaii Sport Fishing. The thrill of hooking into one of these large Hawaii sport fish (the Pacific Blue Marlin can reach hundreds and even over a thousand pounds in weight) and attempting to bring it on board is something you will never forget. Once you’ve hooked into your first Hawaii sport fish, you’ll be hooked as well! You’ll be back time and time again for the thrill of the pursuit and the excitement of the big game fishing in Hawaii.
The Kona Sport Fishing fleet is enormous!
There is a huge fleet of fishing boats available for charter on the Big Island of Hawaii and many are among the most beautiful to be found in the state.
Pricing on these Big Island fishing charters is very, very reasonable compared to other islands in the state.
It is ironic that some of the best sport fishing in Hawaii, and in fact the world, on some of the most beautiful sport fishing boats in Hawaii, could be found on the Kona Coast of the Big Island at the very lowest prices.
If you have the slightest interest in sport fishing, the Big Island of Hawaii is the place to do it. These are the likely types of fish you will catch on your Big Island Fishing Charter:
- Skip Jack (Aku) and Yellow Fin (Ahi) Tuna
- Ono (Wahoo)
- Marlin (Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin)
- Mahi Mahi (Dorado or Dolphin Fish)
Important considerations regarding your Big Island of Hawaii sport fishing charters:
- Private Hawaii sport fishing charters book the whole boat for the exclusive use of you and your group. Most Big Island boats either simply prefer, or actually exclusively only permit private charters.
- You may choose to hire a “share boat” with a group of people. The maximum is usually 6. Minimum is often 4 passengers. If you are only one or two persons wishing to go on a share boat you will need to wait until another couple is found by the boat to share your charter.
- Hawaii fishing charters are available for various trips lasting 4, 6, or 8 hours.
- Big Island charter fishing trips can leave in the morning or afternoon.
- If you’re really serious about sport fishing, book a 3/4 (6-hour) or full day (8-hour) trip. This gives your fishing charter the best opportunity to reach the major fishing grounds and spend some time there.
- The “tag and release” option is available on some boats. Discuss this with the captain at the beginning of your trip.
As is the case on the other Hawaiian Islands, the catch is generally kept by the boat and sold to local restaurants as a means of supplementing the high costs of operation of these boats. Special arrangement can be discussed with the boat captain in some instances. Clients will normally be given enough fillets to take home to enjoy a fish fry on their return to their condo that evening.
Hawaii sport fishing captains and crew are great fishermen, but you’ll be pleased to know they won’t be making your lunch. Bring your own food and drink.
All equipment, licenses and ice are provided by the boat.
